My exchange so far

Long time no blogging. I’ve not really had the inpiration to write something that I want to publish lately. I’ve been writing journal from time to time (usually when I have nothing else to do) but most of the stuff I write in it isn’t really publishable. It’s usually just me freewriting on just anything that comes to my mind and usually it’s too personal for anyone else than me to read. Maybe some day I’ll publish everything I write. Alot has happened and alot is yet about to happen during my time in exchange. For the most part it has been awesome. Sometimes there’s boring moments when nothing really is happening. I need to find something to do during those moments. I might just lay in my bed and listen to music or read a book. I mean I always find something to do but not always is everything very exciting. Well there isn’t anyone else but me to blame for that.

It’s now been almost three weeks in exchange in Dornbirn, Austria. First two weeks were really fun. Especially the 2nd week which was a Welcome week by the University (FH Vorarlberg). During that week we did some activities to get to know each other better between all of the exchange students. We told stuff about our own countries, got a tour around the University, we did an excursion to local a mountain, visited farmers market and made a small meal out of the ingredients we bought there. What else? Well overall the weather is alot better here than in Finland, though it’s raining quite often here. The scenery is amazing. I love the alps. Although I’m kinda starting to get used to it. At first I couldn’t believe I really was looking at the Alps. It looked like a image that was just glued to the horizon or as if I was looking at a scene from a movie. People who visit Finland must love the snow because they aren’t used to it. Same with the scenery here. Slowly you get used to it and I think probably at some point you start to hate it. Well I didn’t really start to hate the snow but I’m just so overly used to it that I take it for granted. It’s pretty beautiful if you think about it. It’s a privilidge. This picture is taken near a ski resort Bödele we visited:

Yesterday I was, with my exchange student friends, looking at the bonfire where they burned giant witches. My clothes smell like the smoke. It was pretty amazing stuff to look at. Here’s a picture of it:

There’s just so many things that have happened that I’m not sure what to write about. I’ve taken alot of pictures and posted alot of them to Facebook and alot more is coming (alot of alot in that sentence). At the end of Welcome week we had a Party of the Nations in Anzieh Bar and it was overall a really amazing night, probably the best one I’ve had here so far. I’ve gotten to know alot of awesome people during the exchange and I think the best is still yet to come.

On saturday I went to a Veggie Planet event and met some other vegan/vegetarian exchange students there and it was overall really nice experience because I’ve not been to an event like that before. I got some info on alot of different vegan foods and products and got to taste some free tastings and also we ate some really good vegan food there. Also we signed some petitions and raffles. I didn’t buy much from the event, maybe next time. The event was in Bregenz, close to beautiful Bodensee. There was alot of cute ducks and couple swans in the beach. There was also a casino with poker tables in Bregenz, I might go play there sometime maybe. And also there was this weird and kinda scary monument:

Other mentionable things that I’ve done so far here is hired a bike, got a gym membership (haven’t really visited it many times yet because right after getting it I was sick for a week), tried some different kinds of foods, ofcource been drinking too much and now trying to take it a bit easier in future, played alot of card games with friends here and some other stuff I right now can’t remember but overall it’s been awesome. I recommend you to go to exchange if you have a chance, or just travel to a different place and get a change of scenery. It really is good for you  🙂

Oh right, I forgot to mention but I’ve started to meditate daily again, aiming for 10mins in the morning and 10mins in the night. Not writing down results this time to not make it a too forced thing for myself. I felt like that was worth mentioning because the reason I started to do this blog was meditation.
